Carlyle Mysteries

In 1940s Chicago, a young medical student must take on a less-than-satisfactory internship with a private detective where she quickly discovers not everything is as black and white as she had once believed. The Carlyle Mysteries series follows Abigail Sinclair, a doctor in training, and Detective Carlyle as they face a variety of dangerous cases that expose the depravity of humanity, the conflict between good and evil, and difficulties from their own pasts including a colorful cast of characters and excitement around every corner.

Book 1: A Mire of Secrets

1941 Chicago.
A war rages, a body is found drowned in the muddy mire of the Chicago Harbor, and a young medical student is faced with a dilemma. Abigail Sinclair must complete an internship to gain her license as a doctor. When her best friend is sent overseas as a field surgeon, Abigail is faced with the much less appealing position of serving as assistant to Detective Carlyle, a strange private detective with unorthodox methods. What originally promises to be a boring and unproductive internship quickly takes a turn for the sinister when a man is found drowned in the harbor. The only suspect: a ghostly woman apparition. Amongst a plot to quell a union uprising, the unsolved mystery of a nearly identical murder, arson, and Carlyle’s half-truths and secrets, Abigail realizes that her internship is the least of her worries. A mystery beckons and she must solve it, there’s simply no other choice.

Book 2: The Words Left Behind

Abigail Sinclair has finally begun to adjust to her new role as Detective Carlyle’s assistant and has found her footing as a doctor-in-training. But just as she is settling into her future, unwanted ghosts from her past come to haunt her. Abigail’s brother has gone missing, a friend from her old life is dead, and the only witness is convinced that it wasn’t an accident but murder. Abigail learns with horror that her brother is the primary suspect. Abigail must brave the now fracturing glass castle of her childhood. She won’t be alone because, with a mystery afoot, Carlyle is eager to tag along. Abigail must consider everyone suspects, including her old friends and her brother. The only clue to what truly happened is a traumatized witness and a cryptic notebook that her brother left behind. Working together with Carlyle, Abigail must solve the riddle, discover where her brother has gone, and who is responsible for the death of Fitz Sawyer.
